DO NOT BE A FAN

INDIAN - CULTURE  and thought has an idea to have an IDEAL viz.- Ram , Krishna  , Bauddha  and Gandhi  ; the BEST of men  and to follow them and their ideals to raise our lives like them but we never had the idea of fanship (borrowed from west). Fanship  is worse than slavery as it treats other one as superior . this is also against the idea of   ' all born equal '.in this Universe even a blade of grass is unique . (never compare the word 'fan ' with  respect , honour , reverence and like )
Do not, and I repeat, DO NOT! Do not be a fan . be a friend ; a follower ; leader ; teacher ; learner ; adviser ; counsellor ; guide BUT NOT A FAN (because most unwise for a MAN to be fan). play any game in your life ,small or smaller but never be vicarious .(watching the game of others and not playing yourself )YOU HAVE A LIFE OF YOURS AND TRY TO PLAY IT , THIS WAY OR THAT WAY . DO NOT BE A 'fan'
You can praise any one , raise him , encourage him but do not make a *mirage of him ( *an effect caused by hot air in deserts or on roads, that makes you think you can see something, such as water, which is not there or a hope or wish that you cannot make happen because it is not realistic ) . To be fan is to be nothing ,to loose one's own identity , existence . who failed everywhere went to be a fan . You can have a person as an Ideal to act upon not to worship to learn only from a great man ,how did he become great ? how you can follow him and make your life sublime . to be fan is only a fun for nothing . "Life is real ,life is earnest " it is not fun and fanship. DO NOT BE a 'fan ' but a REAL MAN .
Every one of us has in him many things ,thoughts and potentials still unknon & undiscovered . Be Columbus to your own self-potentials as a continent .Do not waste your time and energy in watching at others on work but avail your own opportunity that you have today (blessings on you today). do not regret that has happened nor wait tomorrow that does not come , act upon today .
All my life I had been looking for something, and everywhere I turned someone tried to tell me what it was. I accepted their answers too, though they were often in contradiction and even self-contradictory. I was naive(*lacking experience of life, knowledge or good judgment and willing to believe that people always tell you the truth ). I was looking for myself and asking everyone except myself questions which I, and only I, could answer. It took me a long time and much painful *boomeranging of my expectations to achieve a realization everyone else appears to have been born with: that I am nobody but myself. ~Ralph Ellison, "Battle Royal" (*a weapon hat may cause unexpected harm to the user himself )

OF INDIA ( On Indepence Day )

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by domestic walls;
Where words come out from the depth of truth;
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;
Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action--
Into that heaven of freedom, my father, let my country awake.
Rabindranath Tagore ( Gitanjali )
*Long years ago, we made a tryst with destiny and now the time comes when we shall redeem our pledge... At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom.
*We end today a period of ill fortune and India discovers herself again. The achievement we celebrate today is but a step, an opening of opportunity, to the greater triumphs and achievements that await us. Are we brave enough and wise enough to grasp this opportunity and accept the challenge of the future?
*At the dawn of history India started on her unending quest, and trackless centuries are filled with her striving and the grandeur of her success and her failures. Through good and ill fortune alike she has never lost sight of that quest or forgotten the ideals which gave her strength.
Jawaharlal Nehru
"How can one be compelled to accept slavery? I simply refuse to do the master's bidding. He may torture me, break my bones to atoms and even kill me. He will then have my dead body, not my obedience. Ultimately, therefore, it is I who am the victor and not he, for he has failed in getting me to do what he wanted done."
Mahatma Gandhi
We owe a lot to the Indians, who taught us how to count, without which no worthwhile scientific discovery could have been made!
Albert Einstein
If there is one place on the face of earth where all the dreams of living men have found a home from the very earliest days when man began the dream of existence, it is India!
Romaine Rolland, French scholar
India is the cradle of the human race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of legend, and the great grand mother of tradition. Our most valuable and most astrictive materials in the history of man are treasured up in India only!
Mark Twain
She (India) has left indelible imprints on one fourth of the human race in the course of a long succession of centuries. She has the right to reclaim ... her place amongst the great nations summarizing and symbolizing the spirit of humanity. From Persia to the Chinese sea, from the icy regions of Siberia to Islands of Java and Borneo, India has propagated her beliefs, her tales, and her civilization!
Sylvia Levi
India conquered and dominated China culturally for 20 centuries without ever having to send a single soldier across her border!
Hu Shih, former Ambassador of China to USA
So far as I am able to judge, nothing has been left undone, either by man or nature, to make India the most extraordinary country that the sun visits on his rounds. Nothing seems to have been forgotten, nothing overlooked.
Mark Twain
If I were asked under what sky the human mind has most fully developed some of its choicest gifts, has most deeply pondered on the greatest problems of life, and has found solutions, I should point to India.
Max Mueller, German scholar
This is indeed India! The land of dreams and romance, of fabulous wealth and fabulous poverty, of splendour and rags, of palaces and hovels, of famine and pestilence, of genii and giants and Aladdin lamps, of tigers and elephants, the cobra and the jungle, the country of hundred nations and a hundred tongues, of a thousand religions and two million gods, cradle of the human race, birthplace of human speech, mother of history, grandmother of legend, great-grandmother of traditions, whose yesterday's bear date with the modering antiquities for the rest of nations-the one sole country under the sun that is endowed with an imperishable interest for alien prince and alien peasant, for lettered and ignorant, wise and fool, rich and poor, bond and free, the one land that all men desire to see, and having seen once, by even a glimpse, would not give that glimpse for the shows of all the rest of the world combined.
Mark Twain
When I read the Bhagavad-Gita and reflect about how God created this universe everything else seems so superfluous.
Albert Einstein
India - The land of Vedas, the remarkable works contain not only religious ideas for a perfect life, but also facts which science has proved true. Electricity, radium, electronics, airship, all were known to the seers who founded the Vedas.
Wheeler Wilcox, American poet
India was the motherland of our race, and Sanskrit the mother of Europe's languages: she was the mother of our philosophy; mother, through the Arabs, of much of our mathematics; mother, through the Buddha, of the ideals embodied in Christianity; mother, through the village community, of self-government and democracy. Mother India is in many ways the mother of us all.
Will Durant, American historian
So far as I am able to judge, nothing has been left undone, either by man or nature, to make India the most extraordinary country that the sun visits on his rounds. Nothing seems to have been forgotten, nothing overlooked.
Mark Twain
There are some parts of the world that, once visited, get into your heart and won't go. For me, India is such a place. When I first visited, I was stunned by the richness of the land, by its lush beauty and exotic architecture, by its ability to overload the senses with the pure, concentrated intensity of its colors, smells, tastes, and sounds... I had been seeing the world in black & white and, when brought face-to-face with India, experienced everything re-rendered in brilliant technicolor.
Keith Bellows, VP - National Geographic Society
India has two million gods, and worships them all. In religion all other countries are paupers; India is the only millionaire.
Mark Twain

TULASI TO GANDHI - 2

Shun those people as enemies who are not devoted to Rama and Sita, be they ever so good friends. (For Him), Prahlad left his father, Bibhishana his brother, Bharata his mother, Bali his teacher, the women of Vraj their husbands and they all rejoiced (in their sacrifice).
A friend is desirable only so long as he is attached and devoted to Rama. What more need I say, what is the use of the eye-powder that destroys the eyes? Tulsi says: In my opinion, he who is devoted to the feet of Rama is in every respect my friend worthy of love and dear as life itself.
O Raghuvir, my shame is Thy shame. I am ever seeking Thy protection and Thou art noted as protector of the weak. I have heard it said of Thee that it is Thy promise that Thou wouldst save sinners. And I am an old sinner; take my ship ashore. To destroy the sin of Thy devotees and to remove their distress is Thy only task. Be merciful, O Lord, to Tulsidas, and give him the boon of Thy worship
I have spoiled everything hitherto but will do so no longer. By the grace of God the night is past, I am awake and shall no more go to sleep. I have the talisman in the shape of God’s name; it shall not vanish from my heart. The beautiful and holy face of God is the testing stone. The gold of my heart shall be tested on it. My sense organs finding me without control have mocked me. I have now acquired self-control, they shall no more deride me. Tulsi says: My mind like the bee on the lotus shall lean on the lotus feet of Rama.
O Madhav! there is none on this earth in every way so low, corrupt, beggarly and steeped in vice like me and I am in distress having left Thee, God, so merciful without cause, so friendly to the afflicted; why dost Thou not show mercy to me? It is not Thy fault, I know it is all of my doing. O Lord, thou gavest me a body through which I could know Thee but notwithstanding that I did not know Thee, The bamboo and the karil vainly blame the sandal and the spring (the one for want of scent and the other for want of leaves), being unworthy and unfortunate how could the one have scent and the other leaves? I am convinced that I am hard of heart in every way and Thou, O Lord, art tender. Tulsidas says: God! my bondage can be broken only by Thy mercy
In the Kaliyuga Ramanama is the all-yielding tree. It is the destroyer of scorching miseries caused by bad times, pauperism, etc. Repeating the name purifies the mind and banishes misfortune. Valmiki and Shanker sing the virtues of taking the name whether correctly or with the letters transposed. It is well here and hereafter with those who are armed with the beautiful power (of the name). Tulsi says: I am able to live in the world peacefully by the power of the name, I have no anxiety whether I live or die. ( Translated by  MK Gandhi )

TULASI TO GANDHI - 1

O elephant-mouthed one, the chief of ganas by thinking on whom one attains salvation and who is a storehouse of knowledge and virtues, may Thy grace descend upon me; O merciful one by whose mercy the dumb speak, the lame ascend steep hills and who washes off all the scorching dirt of Kali—shower thy blessings upon me.
Thou art merciful, I am in distress; Thou art the giver, I am a beggar; I am a known sinner, Thou art the forgiver of mountains of sins; Thou art the help of the helpless and who can be so helpless as I?
There is none so afflicted like me, there is no deliverer like unto Thee; Thou art the creator, I am a little creature; Thou art the lord, I am a slave; Thou art father, brother, teacher, friend, all in all to me; if I have only faith, I know that there is much between Thee and me; may Tulsi somehow feel the protecting power of Thy holy feet.
। O my soul! How foolish art thou, thou leavest the celestial waters of Ramabhakti and runnest after the mirage even as the chatak bird being thirsty mistakes a volume of smoke for a cloud but finds neither coolness nor water and damages its eyes into the bargain; or even as the hungry hawk seeing its own reflection through a glass floor falls upon it forgetting the injury done to its own face.
O merciful God, how long need I relate my misdeeds? Thou knowest the minds of Thy devotees.
Tulsidas says: Lord, think of Thy  promise and deliver Thy servant from the insufferable misery.
** Translated by Gandhi ji  the  verses of Tulasi from Vinay ptrika  that were included in his prayer-book .

OF SUBLIMATION

" What he is  and what he should be or can be "  this statement is only applicable to 'MAN' on this planet Earth . What is Instinct  ?
An inherited tendency of an organism to behave in a certain way, usually in reaction to its environment & for the purpose of fulfilling a specific need. It does not depend upon the specific details of an individual's learning experiences but in the same way for all individuals of the same species. Example - birds will build nest typical of their species although they never have seen such a nest being built before. Butterfly species undertake long migrations to wintering grounds that they have never seen. Behavior in animals often reflects the influence of a combination of instinct and learning. The basic song pattern of many bird species is inherited, but it is often refined by learning from other members. Dogs that naturally seek to gather animals such as sheep or cattle into a group are said to have a herding instinct, but the effective use of this instinct by the dog also requires learning on the dog's part. Instinct, as opposed to reflex, is usually used of inherited behavior .
HUMAN INSTINCTS -
1- anger 2- fear 3 - hunting (violence ) 4 - acquisitiveness 5 - constructiveness 6 - sympathy 7 - imitation 8 - playfulness 9 - curiosity 10 - sociability 11 - modesty / shame 12 - love (sex ) - by James .
1- escape 2- combat (fight/violence ) 3 - repulsion 4 - mating /sex 5 - food-seeking 6 - hoarding /storing 7 - submissiveness 8 - assertion 9 - curiosity 10 - construction 11 - gregariousness/sociability -- by Mecdougall 1908Behind every action is a thought, and behind that thought is a desire of some kind. Our desires are tied to survival and reproduction--the first two basic instincts.
Every human desire, impulse, or feeling is tied to a basic instinct. There is not one example of a pleasure, pain, or emotion that exists simply for its own sake. They are always tied to a basic instinct. Our subconscious mind is the caretaker of basic instincts. Daniel Goleman writes, "In a very real way, we have two brains." Only that our feelings are independently managed by the subconscious mind.
All other living beings go in their lives according to their INSTINCTS . Only man can SUBLIMATE his INSTINCTS from bad to good and good to better & again can use bad instincts to good > better > best (from negative to positive ).see ! some more examples - USE /sublimate Anger to physical & productive work ;Fear to GOD &Corrupt practices ;sex to creative art & music/ poetry ;hate to your lust & irregularity.late rising / smoking etc .;Escape from duty & study ; Combat against injustice ;Hoarding of knowledge/ learning ;Assertion in charity & help and so on .
Sublimation (psychology)
In psychology, sublimation is a coping mechanism. It has its roots in the Nietzschean & psychoanalytical approach, and is often also referred to as a type of defense mechanism.Sublimation is the refocusing of psychic energy (which Sigmund Freud believed was limited) away from negative outlets to more positive outlets. These drives which cannot find an outlet are rechanneled. For example, a student who has a major upcoming test, rather than spending time and energy worrying about it, might rechannel that time and energy into studying; and a rageful person who is accustomed to wasting time and energy on lashing out at others, might instead rechannel those outlets towards expressions of art, music or poetry.
Sublimation is the term for when matter undergoes a phase transition directly from a solid to gaseous form, or vapor, without passing through the more common liquid phase between the two. It is a specific case of vaporization.)

ON FLOWERS .

I will be the gladdest thing
Under the sun!
I will touch a hundred flowers
And not pick one.
~Edna St. Vincent Millay, "Afternoon on a Hill"

Why do people give each other flowers?  To celebrate various important occasions, they're killing living creatures?  ~The Washington Post
God loved the flowers and invented soil.  Man loved the flowers and invented vases. (God loved the birds and invented trees. Man loved the birds and invented cages.) - Jacques Deval
I don't know whether nice people tend to grow roses
or growing roses makes people nice.
-   Roland A Beowne

  Silently a flower blooms,
In silence it falls away;
Yet here now, at this moment, at this place,
The world of the flower, the whole of
the world is blooming.
This is the talk of the flower, the truth
of the blossom:
The glory of eternal life is fully shining here.
- Zenkei Shibayama.
If you want to judge the wisdom of a person ,you can ask one question  - ''do you pick flowers , accept or receive  garlands of  flowers ,decorate any thing ,place or occasion with flowers '' and he says 'yes ' he is not wise .*Gndhi never used to this with flowers (Murari Bapu who says Ram Katha does not allow flowers on his dais (Vyaspith the seat of Katha ) .a saint or person who does it can never be Religious .
*Yes ! we can use those flowers likely to fall down or we can pick them those fallen on Earth .
*Lord Bauddha  was against even to harm a blade /leaf  of grass . we can not kill any that we can not create .
*To pluck flowers is an act of violence and against the theory of love .
*we can plant flowers in our garden and homes and enjoy their beauty on plants .
*Harming flowers is against the philosophy of preservation of Environment and in long run suicide .
Any argument otherwise is baseless and unwise .
